Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) constitute a legally binding agreement between you (“User”, “you”) and BackBench (“Back-Bench”, “we”, “us”, or “our”).

By visiting, accessing, or registering an account on https://back-bench.com or https://app.back-bench.com, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must discontinue use of the service immediately.

2. About BackBench

BackBench provides a centralized digital academic dashboard that enables students to organize their college life. Product capabilities include:

• Classwork & Task Tracking: Logging assignments, tracking submission deadlines, and organizing coursework by subject.
• Study Library & Vault: Organizing study materials, course notes, lecture PDFs, and student-created study bundles in one accessible location.
• Timetable & Calendar: Displaying class hours, exam schedules, and academic calendar milestones.
• Official Feed: Displaying notices and verified announcements from course departments and college administrative offices.
• BunkBuddy Attendance Tracking: Logging attendance history, tracking minimum threshold targets, and evaluating attendance scenarios.

3. Eligibility & Account Security

To create an account on BackBench, you must be at least 13 years old (or the legal age required in your jurisdiction to consent to online services) and enrolled in, affiliated with, or preparing for a recognized educational institution.

When maintaining an account, you agree to:

• Provide accurate, truthful, and current registration information.
• Maintain the confidentiality and security of your login credentials and password.
• Promptly notify us at work@furqansiddiqui.me if you detect unauthorized access to your account.
• Accept responsibility for all activities occurring under your authenticated session.

4. Acceptable Use Policy

BackBench is built for productive learning. You agree not to misuse the service. You may not:

• Use the platform for any unlawful, fraudulent, or defamatory purpose.
• Upload or distribute viruses, trojans, worms, or other malicious software designed to compromise system integrity or other users' devices.
• Attempt to probe, scan, breach, or test the vulnerability of our application, servers, or database access controls.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or extract source code from the compiled web application.
• Deploy automated scrapers, spiders, bots, or crawlers that place excessive load on the service or bypass rate limits.
• Harass, impersonate, or intimidate faculty members, college staff, or fellow students through shared course channels or announcement responses.

5. User Content & Academic Work

You retain full ownership of your work. BackBench does not claim any intellectual property rights over the notes, assignment text, study resources, or files that you submit or upload to the service.

By uploading or inputting content into BackBench, you grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license solely to host, store, transfer, format, and display your content to you (and to other authenticated members of your course channel, if you share content publicly within your college group) as necessary to operate the service.

You represent and warrant that you own or have the necessary permissions to upload any materials you store on BackBench, and that your uploads do not violate third-party copyright, trade secret, or privacy rights.

6. Study Library & Vault Study Bundles

BackBench provides study resource features including the Study Library and Vault. Vault features student-created study bundles unlocked collectively by classes. Vault contains community-created study material prepared independently by students and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially provided by any college or university.

While BackBench applies robust platform safeguards, the service is an academic sharing and organizational convenience tool, not an archival disaster-recovery system. Students remain responsible for maintaining independent backup copies of their essential personal academic work. BackBench is not liable for data loss or service disruptions beyond our reasonable control.

7. Important Academic Disclaimer

College academic policies, timetable changes, classroom allocations, assignment deadlines, and attendance requirements are established solely by your college or university. BackBench has no authority over, and bears no responsibility for:

• Official grades, marks, or assessment scores assigned by professors or examination bodies.
• Differences between unofficial records logged on BackBench and official institutional records maintained on your college ERP or physical attendance registers.
• Decisions made by college administrations regarding exam debarment, attendance shortages, or disciplinary actions.

8. BunkBuddy Informational Notice

The BunkBuddy feature provides attendance calculations, percentage simulations, and “safe bunk” projections based entirely on the class counts and attendance targets entered by the user.

BunkBuddy is strictly an informational calculator. Calculations are mathematical estimates for personal planning. They do NOT constitute official college attendance verification, nor do they guarantee that your institution will permit an absence. College faculty records and official institutional portals always take precedence. Students are solely responsible for verifying their actual standing with their academic department.

9. College & Campus Use

Colleges, universities, and student unions may adopt BackBench as an institutional solution tailored to their department workflows, announcement feeds, and syllabus structure.

Institutional deployments are arranged on a custom basis. For institutional setup, custom configurations, or integration inquiries, college representatives must contact the operator directly at work@furqansiddiqui.me.

10. Third-Party Infrastructure

BackBench utilizes established third-party infrastructure providers to deliver its service:

• Supabase: For managed authentication, encrypted database records, and secure object storage buckets.
• Cloudinary: For media file processing and asset delivery.
• Transactional SMTP Providers: For system verification and password reset emails.

Your use of the service acknowledges that underlying infrastructure uptime is subject to the operational status of these providers.

11. Intellectual Property

The BackBench brand, trademarks, logos, UI designs, code, stylesheets, typography scale, visual assets, and proprietary features are the intellectual property of BackBench and its operator.

You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, display, or create derivative works from the BackBench marketing site, app UI, or branding without our prior written permission.

12. Service Availability & Changes

We strive to maintain high uptime and fast response times. However, we do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.

We reserve the right to modify, update, enhance, or temporarily suspend features for maintenance, security patches, or operational upgrades. Wherever practical, we will schedule maintenance during off-peak student hours.

13. Warranty Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW, THE BACKBENCH SERVICE (INCLUDING THE WEBSITE, WEB APP, BUNKBUDDY, STUDY LIBRARY, AND ALL ASSOCIATED CONTENT) IS PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY OF ACADEMIC CALCULATIONS, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR SPECIFIC COURSEWORK NEEDS OR PREVENT ACADEMIC ERRORS.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL BACKBENCH, ITS OPERATOR, AFFILIATES, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Loss of academic grades, marks, attendance clearance, or exam eligibility;
• Loss of uploaded files, notes, or assignment drafts;
• Disciplinary action taken by educational institutions;
• Service interruptions, server downtime, or unauthorized access to user accounts.

In no event shall our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to your use of the service exceed the amount you paid to BackBench in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or fifty US dollars ($50.00), whichever is greater.

15. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless BackBench and its operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with:

• Your breach of these Terms or acceptable use policies;
• Content or files that you upload that infringe third-party intellectual property rights;
• Your misuse of the platform or violation of any applicable law.

16. Suspension & Termination

You may terminate your account at any time by requesting deletion at work@furqansiddiqui.me.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account access immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you violate these Terms, engage in abusive behavior, upload unlawful materials, or attempt to compromise the platform's security. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately.

17. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms periodically to reflect product updates, new platform integrations, or legal standards. When changes are made, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of BackBench after revised Terms become effective constitutes your binding acceptance of the revisions.

18. Governing Law & Contact

These Terms shall be interpreted and governed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be resolved amicably through good-faith informal consultation.
